Barack Hussein Obama, incumbent of the Oval Office, just got re-elected. It’s a pretty neat trick for a president who blatantly failed to deliver any of his promises. To quickly sum up, he failed to close down the infamous Guantanamo bay illegal prison facility. He failed to push his healthcare reform plan and eventually had to settled for a revised plan who got pushed through the Houses in 2010. He failed to expedite the end of the Iraq war (although he did manage to switch focus on Afghanistan). His bail-out of major US banks was the tip of his administration’s mismanagement of an economic crisis that spread through the world. His subsequent “stimulus packages” had a limited effect.
His popularity was in a free-fall, with AIPAC (the Israeli lobby) battering him for having the audacity to call for a stop to Israel’s crimes against humanity. All until yesterday.
Yesterday, Barack Hussein Obama personally approved a plan to take down Osama Bin Laden. Carried out by the SEAL arrowhead of the US Navy, the operation seems to have finally brought an end to the Osama bin Laden saga.
Osama needs to introduction. He killed a lot of people. His main message to the world was the the West should finally stop its 1500-year old struggle to control the Middle East. Now he is dead (apparently).
First of all, is he really? Let’s not forget that the US has claimed the same in at least three other occasions. Each time the press was fed fancy photos, stories of American bravery and a lot of yadda-yadda-yadda. However, the mediatic backlash was one of the nails in GW Bush Jr’s political coffin. I don’t think the US would do the same mistake for a fourth time. Even if by any chance the body presented isn’t bin Laden (though granted, this time at least it looks a helluva lot like Osama), they have a way to make sure bin Laden won’t raise his head again.
Conspiracy theorists have a lot of material to work here, the root being the legitimate lack of trust in anything the White House outputs to the press.
The relevant parts are these:
-
Barack Hussein Obama supervised the operation himself, from the first bits of intel until the final go-ahead order. This means re-election.
-
The Americans are happy, they cheer in the streets as the pop culture item Osama bin Laden can finally be put to rest in some heroic comics.
- The US Dollar has strengthened considerably in the first hours of the morning
- The oil barrel price dropped 1.3% while on an ascending trend.
All in all, Osama’s death (real or fake), gave the US economy a much needed breath of air. Stock markets on the rise, currency stopped falling, oil reserves going up. All this will be felt by commodity prices in about a month and the Americans will cheer ever more. And if the American markets cheer, so will the Europeans ones.
